Garage door opener repair

Garage Door Opener Repair in Brentwood, Franklin and Nashville

Openers that hum, click, reverse, stop halfway or ignore the remote. We diagnose the opener and the door together, then repair sensors, gears, wiring, remotes and wall controls.

Diagnosis

Check the Door Before Blaming the Opener

An opener is a guide, not a lift. It’s designed to move a door that the springs have already balanced. When a spring breaks or a cable slips, the opener has to fight the full weight of the door. It strains, hums, reverses or strips its gear.

That’s why our diagnosis starts with the door itself, so you never replace the wrong thing.

  • Disconnect the opener and test the door’s balance by hand
  • Check the track and rollers for binding
  • Then test motor, drive, limits, force, sensors and controls

Troubleshooting

Opener Troubleshooting Guide

What the opener is doing, what usually causes it, and how we fix it.

A few checks are safe to try yourself: fresh remote batteries, a clear sensor beam and a plugged-in opener.

Safety sensors

Safety Sensor Repair and Replacement

The two small sensors near the bottom of the door send an invisible beam across the opening. If anything breaks the beam while the door is closing, the opener reverses. When the sensors are knocked out of line, dirty, sun-blinded or wired badly, the door refuses to close.

  • Realign and secure the sensor brackets
  • Repair or replace damaged low-voltage wiring
  • Replace failed sensors and test with an obstruction

Opener Repair Questions

Quick answers to common questions. Don’t see yours? Call (615) 500-0326.

Is it the opener or the door?

Often it’s the door. Openers are built to guide a balanced door, not lift dead weight. If a spring or cable has failed, the opener will strain, hum or reverse. We check door balance before diagnosing the opener so you don’t replace the wrong thing.

Why does my garage door go back up when I try to close it?

Most often the safety sensors near the floor are misaligned, dirty or have a damaged wire. It can also be the close-force setting or travel limits. Check that nothing is blocking the beam and that both sensor lights are steady. If that doesn’t fix it, we can.

Which opener brands do you repair?

We service LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie and Marantec openers, along with other common residential models. Oakstead is an independent company and is not affiliated with or authorized by these manufacturers.

Should I repair or replace my opener?

If the opener is fairly new and the problem is a sensor, remote, gear or wall control, repair is usually the better value. If it’s old, noisy, lacks modern safety features or needs a logic board, replacement may make more sense. See opener installation.

Can you program my new remote or keypad?

Yes. We program remotes, wireless keypads and car-based openers where compatible, and replace wall controls.
